Manage cross-border tax engagements between the US and Canada, addressing dual residency, income allocation, and reporting complexities, Prepare and review Canadian T1 returns, ensuring accurate reporting of worldwide income and applicable foreign tax credits, Interpret and apply US Canada tax treaty provisions to minimize double taxation and optimize client tax positions, Advise clients on cross-border tax implications, residency status, and compliance requirements across both jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review US individual income tax returns (Form 1040) for resident and non-resident individuals.
- Handle cross-border tax engagements involving the United States and Canada, ensuring compliance with both jurisdictions.
- Prepare and review Canadian T1 returns, including reporting of global income and applicable tax credits.
- Apply US Canada tax treaty provisions to address double taxation and optimize tax outcomes for clients.
- Advise clients on tax residency, cross-border income reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities for individuals with cross-border financial interests.
- Ensure compliance with foreign income reporting and disclosure requirements under US and Canadian tax laws.
- Coordinate with clients to gather financial data and ensure timely and accurate filing of returns.
- Liaise with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver integrated and efficient tax solutions.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of US individual taxation (Form 1040 resident and non-resident).
- Experience with Canadian individual tax returns (T1).
- Thorough understanding of the US Canada tax treaty and cross-border taxation principles.
- Ability to manage complex tax scenarios involving dual residency and multi-country income. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client-handling skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
