Position Title: Staff Accountant Accounting, Tax, and Financial Statement Audit
Location: Gurugram, India

About the Opportunity

We are a Canada-based Chartered Professional Accounting and Advisory firm with a growing international footprint. We serve clients across Canada and the United States, offering accounting, taxation, assurance, and advisory services. We are seeking Staff Accountants in India to join our in-person team and support cross-border client needs.

This opportunity offers exposure to both Canadian and US regulatory environments, allowing you to gain diverse experience in international accounting, tax, and audit practices.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting Services

  • Prepare financial statement packages including Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Account, Cash Flow Statements, Budgets, and supporting schedules.
    • Research and resolve accounting issues, ensuring compliance with Canadian GAAP, IFRS, and US GAAP.
    • Develop and update accounting policies, procedures, and documentation of the financial reporting process.
    • Prepare financial statement notes and disclosures in compliance with Canadian and US reporting requirements.
    • Conduct financial analysis to provide management and clients with actionable insights.
    • Support special projects including reconciliations, consolidations, and process improvements.

Taxation

  • Prepare and file Canadian and US corporate, personal, and trust tax returns in compliance with local regulations.
    • Support tax provision calculations and compliance processes across jurisdictions.
    • Conduct Canadian and US tax research; prepare technical memoranda outlining findings and recommendations.
    • Provide tax planning solutions for individuals and corporations with cross-border exposure.
    • Assist in identifying and addressing issues related to US-Canada tax treaties, transfer pricing, and cross-border compliance.

Assurance & Audit

  • Perform financial statement audits, reviews, and compilations in line with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) and US Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS / PCAOB).
    • Document and evaluate processes and controls; perform substantive and control-based testing; prepare audit work papers and reports.
    • Examine company accounts and financial control systems for accuracy and compliance.
    • Apply relevant technical knowledge to address accounting and audit issues for both Canadian and US clients.
    • Develop and implement audit strategies that appropriately address risks and comply with professional standards across jurisdictions.
    • Finalize audit files and prepare client-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.
    • Support SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOX engagements through documentation, walkthroughs, control testing, deficiency identification, remediation recommendations, reporting, and cross-border coordination in accordance with AICPA and PCAOB guidance.
    • Support risk, governance, and advisory engagements by assessing governance frameworks, evaluating enterprise and operational risks, reviewing policies and controls, identifying gaps, and recommending practical improvements to strengthen oversight, compliance, and decision-making. Qualifications and Skills

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelors / Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
    • Candidates with CA, CPA (Canada/US), or equivalent international designation (ACCA, CMA, etc.) will be preferred.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, taxation, and audit.
    • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, IFRS, US GAAP, CAS, and US GAAS/PCAOB standards.
    • Practical experience in internal control testing (ICFR, SOC, SOX).
    • Experience preparing both Canadian and US tax returns (corporate, individual, trust).
    • Hands-on experience with accounting and audit software (QuickBooks, CaseWare, CaseView) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines in an in-person setting.
    • Willingness to work extended hours/weekends aligned with Canadian and US client deadlines.

Good to Have

  • Knowledge of ITGCs and IT audit concepts.
    • Prior exposure to SOC 1/SOC 2 and SOX audit frameworks.
    • Experience with cross-border advisory services, particularly US-Canada compliance.
    • Prior experience with Canadian/US clients at Big 4 or mid-tier firms.
