Job Summary
The Tool Room Engineer is responsible for inspecting, supervising, maintaining, and ensuring the quality of dies used in manufacturing operations specially in Forging industry. The role involves monitoring die condition, coordinating repairs, ensuring dimensional accuracy, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement in tool performance.
Key Responsibilities
Die Inspection
- Inspect new, repaired, and production dies before release.
- Verify die dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
- Ensure die components meet engineering drawings and specifications.
- Check wear, damage, alignment, and surface finish of dies.
- Maintain inspection records and reports.
Die Supervision
- Supervise die maintenance, repair, and assembly activities.
- Monitor die performance during production.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure proper die storage and handling practices.
- Minimize die breakdowns and production interruptions.
Quality Control
- Conduct first-off inspection after die setup.
- Identify defects related to die condition.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Work closely with Quality and Production departments to resolve tooling issues.
Technical Support
- Assist in troubleshooting die-related production problems.
- Support process improvement initiatives.
- Suggest modifications to improve die life and productivity.
- Participate in root cause analysis for recurring die failures.
Documentation
- Maintain die history cards.
- Update maintenance records.
- Prepare inspection reports.
- Maintain calibration records of measuring instruments.
- Ensure compliance with ISO/IATF documentation requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures during die handling.
- Ensure safe use of cranes, lifting equipment, and machine tools.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in the tool room.
- Comply with company quality and environmental policies.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, or Production Engineering.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in tool room, die inspection of Dies related to Forging.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of press tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer
- Height Gauge
- Dial Indicator
- Bore Gauge
- CMM (preferred)
- Understanding of heat treatment and tool steels.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
- Basic knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks preferred).
- Proficiency in MS Office and reporting.
