Job Description

Role & responsibilities


We are seeking a skilled Loads Engineer to perform aeroelastic simulations, analyze turbine loads, and support design optimization and certification activities for wind turbines. The role involves evaluating structural performance under various operating conditions, ensuring compliance with IEC standards, and contributing to continuous improvement of tools and processes.


In this role, you will:


Load Simulation & Analysis


  • Perform aeroelastic load simulations using tools such as Flex5.
    • Execute IEC Design Load Cases (DLCs) to evaluate turbine behavior under normal and extreme conditions.
    • Assess structural performance through fatigue (DEL) and ultimate load (ULT) analysis.
    • Analyze the impact of control software updates on turbine loads.
    • Compare baseline and modified controller performance.
    • Provide technical load sign-off for turbine variants.

Certification Support


  • Prepare load reports and technical documentation for certification (IEC/DNV standards).
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Root Cause Analysis


  • Investigate load exceedances and anomalies using structured RCA methodologies.
    • Interpret statistical load data and identify trends and deviations.

Design & Process Improvement


  • Optimize wind turbine and wind plant design.
    • Propose improvements in tools, processes, and methodologies.

Stakeholder Collaboration


  • Work closely with R&D teams, product managers, and load engineers.
    • Participate in technical reviews and stakeholder meetings.

Preferred candidate profile


Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, structural dynamics, and wind turbine systems
    • Experience in linear and nonlinear structural analysis
    • Expertise in fatigue and extreme load analysis (DEL & ULT)
    • Ability to analyze large datasets and perform signal processing

Software & Tools:

  • Flex5 (or equivalent simulation tools)
    • MATLAB / Simulink
    • Python, SQL, R
    • WAsP, windPRO
    • Git, Jenkins, JIRA

Domain Knowledge

  • IEC 61400 standards and load case evaluation
    • Wind turbine control systems (pitch, torque, yaw)
    • Turbulence models and extreme wind conditions
    • Power performance testing (IEC 61400-12-1)
