Coal India Limited (CIL) is the world largest coal mining company and a Maharatna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. Headquartered in Kolkata, Coal India produces over 700 million tonnes of coal annually.
Our Story
Coal India was established in 1975 through the nationalization of coal mines in India. Today, it operates 350+ mines across 8 states and meets about 80% of India coal requirements.

Coal India explores, produces, and markets coal and coal products through its seven subsidiary companies. The company powers India thermal power plants and industrial sector.
