Protection Application Electrical Engineer

Job description
This position is responsible for the design role of Protection Applications Electrical Engineer of the Transmission & Distribution Global Practice in Burns & McDonnell India. The Protection Application Engineer will support development of protection schemes and relay settings for various T&D equipment such as Transformers, Transmission lines, Distribution feeders, Capacitor Banks, Breakers, bus sections etc. Protection Application engineers will also be involved in various Power System Studies such as Short Circuit Studies, Interconnection Studies, System-wide Protection Coordination Studies and arc-flash Studies

Skill set and Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for performing system protection settings calculations, developing relay logic diagrams, and protection coordination on various Transmission & Distribution projects (up to 345-kV voltage level).
Develop design basis documentation for protective settings, relay settings calculations and generate native relay configuration files using SEL s AcSELerator and GE s Enervista software programs
Application of industry standards for the protection of system equipment, including power buses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders.
Power systems modeling and protective relay coordination analysis using ETAP, SKM,ASPEN OneLiner,or Siemens CAPE software is a plus.
Designing calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over-current element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay load ability calculation
Providing engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations
Knowledge of IEC61850 and its implementation is a plus
Strong technical background and ability to communicate effectively with the US counterparts
Good understanding of excel spreadsheets to automate the process.
Self-motivated, Quick learner & work on quick deadlines.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor s degree in electrical engineering
Minimum of 4 years of experience in in substation protection and control scheme design and preferred relay setting skills.
Will accept a master s degree plus three (3) years of related experience in lieu of bachelor s degree
